Special members and special salespeople

It’s been a while since I’ve written about what makes you different and special.

Well, to be clear, there are a million things that make you different from another person and a million things that make that person different from you.

I wrote two articles today for Club Solutions Magazine, and I filmed a short video for my youtube channel.

One of the articles was about why I like the paid trial offer for memberships.  In it, I write about how too many gyms mix marketing and sales together, and therefore try to do a price driven offer, like free enrolment all of the time.  And those offers only work for serious gym goers, and even then, can backfire, because those folks will simply wait for you to offer free enrollment again.

Instead, use a paid trial offer to get some of the intimidated segment of the sedentary population to take action. Free has no value.  Free week, free 14 days, those do not work.

…… a failure to communicate

I had been paying Comcast $160.00 per month for cable television and high speed internet for the past 10 years.  I finally came to the conclusion that I do not watch much TV, and being forced to watch even less would be a good thing.  I cancelled both services.  I cannot, however, live without internet.  I do a lot of work from home and need to be online continuously and consistently.

Partnerships are not a good idea.  You should avoid them at all costs in the business world.

But if you do end up needing to bring in a partner, please please please get everything in writing. And even then, you can expect things to get ugly most of the time.

Some people will get weird over hours worked.  In fact, MOST people will have it on their minds if profits aren’t where they wanted and they start looking around for problems and solutions.

Random thoughts and observations.

Did you know that 24 out of about 70 total astronauts were born in Ohio?  I’m not sure what that means but I find it kind of interesting.

There are about 40000 fitness centers in the United States.

About 16% to 18% of the population is currently a member of a fitness center.  Another 10% have been members but are not currently.  This makes up between 25% and 30% of the population.  That leaves more than 7 of every 10 people who have NEVER joined a gym. I find that even more interesting than the Ohio astronaut thing.
