I wrote two articles today for Club Solutions Magazine, and I filmed a short video for my youtube channel.

One of the articles was about why I like the paid trial offer for memberships.  In it, I write about how too many gyms mix marketing and sales together, and therefore try to do a price driven offer, like free enrolment all of the time.  And those offers only work for serious gym goers, and even then, can backfire, because those folks will simply wait for you to offer free enrollment again.

Instead, use a paid trial offer to get some of the intimidated segment of the sedentary population to take action. Free has no value.  Free week, free 14 days, those do not work.

Soap box hero?

I remember the day when I decided to become a consultant.

I walked out of the world headquarters for Snap Fitness in October of 2010.  I was happy to be gone and planned on doing nothing but spending more time at the gym I owned for the next couple of months.

Less than two weeks later, my mom was diagnosed with ALS.  Within 6 months of that diagnosis, I sold the gym, mom died, and I met Thomas Plummer.

Kathy Martin, a coach with a PhD

Sometimes life kicks you in the groin.  Bad things happen, and it is hard not to wonder what you did to deserve this bad luck, this karma. But then sometimes pretty awesome things happen.  And when awesome things occur, you need to feel grateful, fortunate, and lucky to be in the right place at the right time.

What color is she?

I am a primary Orange.  My very close secondary color is Green.  Next is Yellow, and my last color is Blue.

Oranges are Energizers.  They are fun-loving, outgoing, where’s the action, where’s the party kind of people.

Greens are the analyzers.  They are the logical thinkers.  They really value mental competency and love data and research.

Yellows are the organizers.  They love order and structure.  They are linear thinkers who enjoy routine and often struggle with change.

Blues are the harmonizers.  They value close personal relationships, cannot handle confrontation very well, and put people in front of product and people in front of paperwork.

I am crazy excited!

In a few weeks, I will have a new website.  www.jasonlinse.com is not going anywhere. The Business of Fitness is alive and well, helping gyms all across the country and Canada.  In addition to being a fitness business consultant I am also a master trainer on personality.  I learned from Bruce Martin, PhD, and Kathy Martin, PhD.  They invented a personality assessment called People Plus+.  It is based on the four quadrants of personality.  A concept used by DISC and MBTI. People Plus uses colors to denote the quadrants.  Yellow, Orange, Blue, and Green.

Have you ever had an employee who seemed to care so much about the members that it almost seemed phony?  She (it’s possible for it to be a male, but a lot more likely that It’s a female) would drop everything to talk to a member.  She didn’t like confrontation at all, and hated selling because any amount of pressure (asking someone to join) was too much.  If you are familiar, you were dealing with a primary BLUE person.
