If you have the cleanest club in town with the most knowledgeable staff, yet you are 100 members below break even, it doesnt’ matter. You may win several compliments from the 200 members that you do have, but I’m gonna go out on a limb here, and predict that you would rather be 100 above even and deal with a bunch of needy members, than be 100 below and hear, “I just love your club.  It’s so clean, the staff is smart, and I never have to wait in line.”

I think the biggest overall challenge that small box fitness centers face is finding, affording, keeping, and training their employees. Who in the hell is motivated to work 24 hours per week at 10 dollars per hour with no other benefits and hardly any direction?
